DECEMBER THEME: MAKING MERRY
by Simone Butler

How did your Thanksgiving gratitude practice go? The influx of new frequencies that week was even bigger and more accelerated than I expected! Eighteen of us celebrated the dawn of the Fifth Day of the Mayan Calendar on Nov. 24 at a beautiful outdoor sanctuary in Solana Beach. Gathered around a fire, we anchored the portal to divine union with myth, meditation, diksha transmission and dance.

The sky is the limit now, yet we may need some practice at recalibrating our energies to match this new frequency. There's a bodacious lineup of planets in Sagittarius this month-a sign that favors joy and expansion. This includes Big Daddy Jupiter (a.k.a. Santa)-whose Harley just rolled into his home sign, bearing gifts.

We're throwing off the shackles of intense, Scorpionic angst that characterized the last few months, while the Sagittarian planets beckon us to fly free. Yet it's easy to exceed your limits when Sagittarius is involved. Be forewarned: trying to cram in too many activities during a time of year that favors turning inward can be more stressful than it's worth. And, the chorus of planets in Sagittarius is apt to be loud and boisterous. People may try to one-up each other with dubious tales and alcohol-fueled arguments. Your still, small voice might have to shout to be heard; be sure you're listening, by taking some solitary moments amid the merrymaking.

Spend time in nature this month, where the Sagittarius energy can best expand your spirit. Revisit something you loved to do in your carefree youth (Saturn turning backward in Leo Dec. 5 through April 19 favors a return to simpler pleasures). Hike, bike, ride a horse or watch the stars all bundled up in the back of a truck with your sweetie. Or, take a child to pick out a Christmas tree. Set aside special time around the New Moon of the 20th and Winter Solstice of the 21st. You may want to create a ceremony with friends.

The Solstice is a sacred turning point, when we welcome back the spark of life on the longest night of the year. Galactic Intelligence will be broadcasting loud and clear as powerful Pluto at 26 degrees of Sagittarius activates the central point of our Milky Way Galaxy. At the New Moon, which conjuncts Pluto, the Galactic Center will be transmitting extra powerfully: tune in to receive your cosmic directive. As astrologer Phil Sedgwick says of Pluto at the GC, "The downloads are free to all." He adds one caveat: "Downloading doesn't count unless the file gets opened and used, too." This is a crucial point.

Many of us are spiritual shoppers-we read the latest books, attend workshops, collect data. We get enthused about a new practice, try it for a week or two, and wow-we feel so peaceful and centered! Then we forget about it as our busy lives intervene and suddenly, we're stressed again. I myself am guilty of this, but I know and return to what keeps me balanced: hikes and yoga classes, salsa dancing, violet flame meditations to heal my heart and awaken my joy. And, blessing any obstacles. Still, I stress over getting everything done. I forget that with time and creation accelerating, the logical mind just can't keep up.

A friend recently reminded me that at this rapid pace, it is simply not possible to catch every detail. If you get 97%, you're doing great. Now that the long-awaited portal to divine union is open and Sagittarius is afoot, it's time to expand your spirit. Do something you've never tried before, or resurrect a practice that gives you joy. That's how we celebrate the birth of the savior-that divine spark within.
