A Quantum Leap
DECEMBER THEME: A QUANTUM LEAP
by Simone Butler

When my dear friend Eva discovered that her beautiful, just-remodeled Rancho Bernardo home and all her belongings had perished in the October fires, she faced a choice. Would she go into shock, plummet to the depths and become a victim? Or would she choose the more conscious path and see this loss as a blessing in disguise?

After a last-minute evacuation to a local hotel, Eva had lain in bed for hours, wracked by fever at the prospect of losing her home. She told me she felt like she was in a sweat lodge, her body expelling years' worth of toxins. Finally, the frenzy had subsided and she fell into an exhausted sleep.

By the time the news arrived the next morning, Eva's mind was clear. "I'm with the love of my life, and we are safe and alive," she decided. "I'm not going to let this get me down."

With that choice, Eva took a quantum leap. By confronting her deepest fears, she moved through them to the other side and emerged, renewed. Gratitude overwhelmed her. Amazingly, she is even glad the fire destroyed her home rather than her neighbors'. "We took it for the 'hood," she jokes. "Our kids are grown. We are in a position to rebuild, where they are not."

Like Eva, we are all facing core issues that have held us back, and being urged to walk through the fire. This is the effect of Jupiter and Pluto coming together in Sagittarius, a fire sign symbolizing faith and truth. Building over the last few months, the process becomes exact on Dec. 11. Jupiter fosters growth, while Pluto demands release. The effect is magnified with the Sun and Mercury also traveling through the sign of the Archer. And, Jupiter reaches the Galactic Center two days before it joins Pluto, focalizing the electromagnetic rays that emanate from that transmission center. It's an unparalleled opportunity for liberating insights and experiences.

Jupiter and Pluto demand change, but also bestow gifts in the area of your chart in which they meet. If they join in your 7th house of relationship, as they do in mine, you may suddenly lock eyes with a handsome stranger in the supermarket--as I did--and find your life irrevocably changed (with all your old fears rising up to be healed!). Jupiter/Pluto in your 10th house is bound to bring life-changing career opportunities; in the 2nd house, financial blessings or a major shift that confronts but ultimately boosts your self-esteem. Jupiter/Pluto in the 4th house can bring revelations from your ancestors or big changes in the home. (If you'd like to find out which area of your chart is being activated, contact me for a Quickie reading.)

The New Moon occurs on Dec. 9, four days after Jupiter triggers the Galactic Center on Dec. 5 and two days before it joins Pluto on the 11th. The period from Dec. 5 to 11 is an intense window of opportunity for growth. The New Moon in truth-seeking Sagittarius squares freedom-loving Uranus in cosmic Pisces, stimulating spiritual breakthroughs. At this New Moon, open your mind to greater understanding. Ask yourself simple, childlike questions: "What would happen if…?" "How do I really feel about…?" Answers will reveal themselves in time, perhaps in an unexpected way.

Another power-packed period from Dec. 18 to 22 gives us an opportunity to ground our new awareness. Jupiter shifts into earthy Capricorn on the 18th and the Sun joins it on the 22nd, just after crossing Pluto on the 20th. The Sun's annual entry into Capricorn at the Winter Solstice on the 21st will be especially powerful this year. Considered a time of spiritual rebirth, on the longest night of the year we celebrate the return of light and warmth by lighting candles and fireplaces to banish the darkness and cold.

This month, we are busting through blocks to our greater happiness as obstacles to our divine nature are removed. If something suddenly disappears, know it's for your greater good. Be thankful for the gift, no matter what form it takes. Even the most bounteous blessing may require you to confront and release fears of loss or unworthiness. As Eva did, you are purging old chunks of darkness, to allow more light to enter. Try to not distract yourself from this initiatory process by too much holiday busy-ness. Sink deep into yourself this sacred season, and be grateful for your gifts.

Many holiday blessings!
