JANUARY THEME: THE
BOTTOM LINE
by Simone Butler
In
one of my favorite movies, The Four Feathers, an African warrior
(Djimon Hounsou) rescues Harry (Heath Ledger), an Army deserter, from
certain death in the Sudanese desert. In his quest to help the
repentant Harry aid his former comrades in battle, the warrior suffers
many trials and barely escapes alive. Later, savoring their hard-won
victory, Harry asks why his new friend would put his life at risk for a
stranger.
"God
put you in my way," the warrior replies.
Some
situations have a feeling of destiny about them. Yet you question why
Spirit put them in your path, with all their attendant challenges. Are
you blessed or cursed? With Jupiter and Pluto's recent convergence in
Sagittarius, some part of your life has been hit by the laser beam of
destiny--accelerating your growth to the max. An opportunity has been
presented to you, and now it's time to decide what to do with it.
Welcome
to the realm of Capricorn, a sober and steadfast sign that regulates
the excesses of its predecessor, jolly and exuberant Sagittarius.
Capricorn's season is deep winter, a barren time of year. Much of the
natural world is in hibernation. Now we draw within and seriously
assess our priorities. As the Sun entered Capricorn on the Winter
Solstice, we began to look at where we're headed.
Since
2008 adds up to a One year in numerology, it's time for a fresh
start. The process of "getting real and getting on with it"
is intensified by last month's entrance of Jupiter, the Sagittarian
ruler, into the sign of the Goat. As Jupiter treks up the Capricorn
mountain throughout 2008, it's all about the long term, not immediate
gratification. Rewards will come through hard work, self-discipline
and maturity. Overspending and excessive debt will have to be curbed.
Yet sacrifices made for a higher goal and pursuits that benefit
the Earth (Capricorn is an Earth sign) will bring great blessings.
In fact, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn along with Saturn in Virgo
offer many opportunities for measured expansion and long-term growth
(see my 2008 Prosperity Report
for more details!).
To
sharpen the knife's edge, Pluto enters Capricorn on January 25 for a
16-year sojourn that will radically overhaul our relationship with
Mother Nature. In this do-or-die period, serious reform will be needed
to counteract global warming and bring us back in balance with our
environment. Pluto will also streamline any bloated governmental and
corporate structures in need of regulation or downsizing. It will force
any group that has abused its power to reform or go bankrupt. Pluto,
planet of death and rebirth, was last in Capricorn during the time of
the American Revolution, from 1762 to 1777. Pluto's trek over the
same turf will trigger a return to the principles of freedom that
birthed our nation.
The
Capricorn New Moon of January 8 calls you to commit to a long-term
goal. Are you facing a daunting challenge or task? And, are you willing
to do what it takes to make it work? With Capricorn there are always
difficulties to overcome--this sign thrives on boundaries and
constraints. Don't let the magnitude of the task deter you; break it
into bite-sized chunks, but keep your eye firmly focused on the end
result. It's not necessary to do it alone. The surges of energy from
the Galactic Core that have penetrated our planet over this last year
have quickened many peoples' consciousness. Projects that benefit the
collective, in particular, will receive support as never before.
Wherever
the New Moon falls in your chart is your new bottom line, where you are
being asked to bravely take the first steps. Many blessings on your
journey up the mountain!
