May Theme: Count Your Blessings

By Simone Butler

Though I enjoy living alone and working at home, I often feel the lack of human connection. Plus, it's easy to feel cut off from nature in the city, especially when constantly using the computer. Hiking last weekend with a friend at Beltane, drinking in the glory of the wildflowers, chirping birds and sunshine, I was reminded that life is about connection and appreciating nature's beauty.

Consider those who were born in the 1990s, as Uranus and Neptune traveled together in electric Aquarius. Now in their teens and 20s, they are always plugged in to their ipods, cells or computers. As a consequence, they're constantly bombarded with electromagnetic frequencies--which studies have linked to ADHD, allergies, chronic fatigue and cancer. It's a high price to pay for connectivity. They, like me, need a regular dose of nature!

Yet what if our society's addiction to technology is also bringing us closer to the blissful experience of group mind? Systems like the Internet and Facebook may serve as training wheels for learning how to connect telepathically with each other. At some point, perhaps we'll drop our devices and relax into oneness consciousness. As unbelievable as it sounds, according to the Mayan Calendar that is where we're rapidly headed.

Yet the only way to make this leap in consciousness is to align our heads and hearts--to give our intuition and emotions a more prominent place in our lives. Otherwise, the fast-track we're on will lead to disaster. As Jupiter and Uranus travel close together this month in creative, feeling-oriented Pisces, in opposition to Saturn in practical Virgo, we're challenged to use our intuition and technological abilities for the greater good. This means, for example, finding a way to clean up oil spills fast--or better yet, free ourselves from dependence on fossil fuels.

It also means cleaning up any messes in our personal lives--like reassessing a job or relationship that's no longer for our highest good. You may say, "But I need my job (or marriage) to make it financially!" I hear this kind of reasoning all the time from clients, some of whom suffer in miserable situations as their health and happiness go down the drain, ignoring the muffled screams of their intuitive voice.

It's time to re-examine our relationship to money and possessions. The May 13 New Moon in Taurus (6:04 pm Pacific time) is the perfect time in which to do so. Taurus rules the natural world--the lush abundance of nature, sensual pleasures of the body as well as the joy of material things. Imagine a bull grazing happily in his pasture. He lives for the moment, with no desire to gain security or status by taking over the pasture next door. Is that 4000 square foot house or 60-inch TV worth the price that paying for it exacts on your soul? Might you find greater contentment by scaling back and enjoying what you already have?

This New Moon makes a supportive sextile to Jupiter and Uranus, as they travel close together in Pisces, headed toward an explosive conjunction in Aries in early June. The New Moon helps us fine-tune our inner voice to get grounded and focused, so we're able to harness these potent incoming energies. This summer promises to catalyze rapid changes. Are you ready? Some people who have been waiting for years for their "big break" will find their dreams suddenly coming true. Others may experience a wake-up call, if they're overly attached to systems and situations that have outlasted their usefulness.

By the end of May, the direction should be clear and the path opening up, with Mercury (communications) turning direct on the 11th and Saturn (manifestation) doing the same on the 30th. Saturn will be moving slowly as it stations, however, so take your time and build your foundation wisely before taking June's big leap. In the meantime, count your blessings and savor the pleasures of this world--we are rich beyond imagining!
